RICARDO PONCESound Design • shapes the audioscape of Seven Local Film projects for which he records, engineers, and mixes sound as well as composes original music. The Buenos Aires-born-and-raised artist is the lead vocalist and principal composer as well as plays guitar and bass for the alternative rock band Planta, which has been a fixture on Gotham's indie scene since he founded it, shortly after moving to NYC, in 2003. Before re-planting in New York, Ponce studied the bass as well as musical theory, composition, and arrangement at the Instituto Tecnológico de Música Contemporánea in Buenos Aires, where he produced two albums of his own work as well as one for the group Salmasis. Ponce founded and operates Brokentime Studio in NYC, where he has produced and engineered recordings by Victoria Gutiérrez, Estéban en Armas, Marcelo Domínguez, and the band Nectar's album Jump the Fence (2008), on which he also performs, as well as two Planta albums: Unwind (2013) and Keep the Light on (2015). He's now at work on his group's next album, to be released in 2024, as he creates original content for M&R Music Revolution. Ricardo manages Terraza 7, the renowned music venue in Elmhurst, Queens, where he has tended bar and organized concerts since 2007. He lives with his two daughters, on the edge of Jackson Heights, in East Elmhurst.
